Based in Stockholm, Sweden Ice was initially formed in 2018 through relationships made on social media, but as a consequence of the pandemic, by 2020 only Olof and José would remain the primary architects of this intent-driven alternative-Metal band. The duo’s first single, “The Light In The Tunnel” clues listeners into the optimistic spirit within the lyrics and the orchestral and ambient nature of the music. Meticulously crafting their own sonic space while providing a strong sense of familiarity, Sweden Ice might be best described as a blend between metal and electronica.
Sweden Ice walks a fine line between metal, electronic, and rock music. 2021 single “Who Are You” was released as a both ‘rock edit’ and an ‘extended edit’ exploring these aspects of the band’s musicality. The dual nature of the song looks inward, exploring what it means to be an individual while also holding yourself personally accountable as a global citizen. “Rainbow Eye”, the first single released by Sweden Ice in 2022, lyrically alludes to looking at the world through the prism of your mind’s eye in order to stay open to possibilities and better understand the shared experience of our existence with one another; its ethereal nature reminding listeners of our infinite potential within the vastness of the space.
During 2022 Sweden Ice also released the single “Everglow” with the message: “Earth is a beautiful place – Take care of it!”. The duo now took their first steps in conceptually weaving together music, lyrics and overall message into a whole for the listeners.
Every note and phrase by Sweden Ice is full of that infinite potential and filled with purpose. “The idea is to catch the listener with the music from every possible angle,” says José. “Every sound has to have a meaning. No melodic or lyrical line in our songs can be random. Sweden Ice has to be an experience for your senses; something that transports you to the universe you want to be in.”
The careful attention to detail is a necessity for Sweden Ice, whose eclectic range of influences extending from classic rock icons Rush, Queen, and Pink Floyd; guitar virtuosos like Steve Vai and Joe Satriani; pop-rock artists like Kent, Coldplay, and Grandaddy; as well as influences from other rock bands that like to push the borders of genre such as Radiohead, The Flaming Lips, The Soundtrack of Our Lives, and Suede.
With the release of the 2023 single “Into The Demon’s Mouth”, Sweden Ice continues to explore their own conceptual evolution to engage the audience with questions concerning challenges and opportunities facing humans and humanity. With this song, the band also takes a direction towards a harder and more melodic direction, leaving most of the pop influences behind.
